Bruce McCrimmon works with clients to move projects that originate as volumetric data models or 3D animation models into files that can be used in interactive, real-time display facilities such as the Visualization Portal.
Models that are in formats native to volumetric, data modeling software, or 3D modeling and animation software usually need to be translated so they can be read by display software such as Performer and VR Juggler. Between modeling software and interactive display there is often a considerable gap. Bruce works in concert with other IDRE consultants to bridge that gap, in some cases using standard procedures, in others developing unique solutions or temporary work-arounds. Bruce puts a lot of emphasis on making the resulting display pleasing to the eye and informative.
In addition to his work in 3D modeling and animation at UCLA, Bruce has worked as a freelancer on film and TV productions. In working with images, Bruce uses such software such as Maya, NuGraph, Multigen, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator, MediaCleaner, and Debabelizer.
When he’s not watching over the Modeling Lab, Bruce is either busy drinking Margaritas, mountaineering, or snorkeling.
