The Virtual Computing Laboratory of IDRE is pleased to invite you to a presentation of private cloud computing in Infrastructure as a Service model using OpenStack/Nova Essex open source software. In this presentation we will discuss the OpenStack/Nova IaaS architecture and a live demo to deploy multiple operating system instances on x86_64 hardware running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
The purpose of this presentation is to gauge interest in cloud computing among campus researchers and system administrators and invite them to participate in future cloud computing and network virtualization projects.
The Virtual computing Laboratory has been exploring open source based cloud computing software such as Eucalyptus, Nimbus and OpenNebula in the past two years. OpenStack/Nova is the preferred software for VCL research activities as OpenStack mandates all codes to be released under Apache 2.0 license which makes it possible for academia and industry to contribute, distribute and use the software for both academic and commercial use free of charge.
Currently, there are 200+ commercial IT companies and universities participating in the OpenStack open source project in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. The companies include Rackspace, HP, IBM, Intel, Sina, Cisco, Ubuntu, RedHat, Suse, Nebula, Dell, Vmware, Mirantis, NEC, Piston, Yahoo, NetApp, CCAT and many others worldwide.
