About the IDRE Postdoctoral Fellowships:

These IDRE fellowships will provide partial support for:

The IDRE fellows will have direct access to and interact with technologists within the IDRE Research Technology Group (RTG) and relevant IDRE-affiliated faculty and researchers. Any postdoc or individual who holds a doctoral degree, is engaged in advanced training and education, and conducts research under the guidance of a faculty member at UCLA is eligible to apply for the fellowship.

It is anticipated that two to four fellowships will be awarded with typical awards between $5,000 and $10,000. Funding for successful applications will be transferred directly to the faculty mentors’ home departments as a way to partially defray costs for the research appointment.

Submissions Guidelines:

Applications of no more than two pages must be submitted by the faculty mentor/project PI. Successful proposals will have identified a fellow candidate, a clear articulation of their intended contribution to an ongoing research project, and a commitment from project partners to provide additional funding, facilities, and other support for the candidate. Applications that feature innovative and computationally based solutions to research problems with a potentially broad impact to the campus will be given the highest priority. Illustrations and appendices of no more than two pages can be submitted to support the application narrative.

The IDRE Fellows will be required to present their own research. They will also be asked to help organize activities for the IDRE Early Career Researchers (ECR) group including a workshop related to their own research interests.

Please send submissions to: help@idre.ucla.edu. Applications will be reviewed by an IDRE-affiliated faculty and researcher committee.

Submissions Deadline: Sunday, September 30, 2018

Testimonials from previous IDRE Fellows:

“It was an honor to be one of the recipient of the IDRE Fellowship Award 2016. The award has helped me showcase my research in various conferences. My work with Professor Jaime Marian in the Materials Science and Engineering department involves developing materials models to simulate recrystallization and grain growth in polycrystalline materials. Much of the modeling has been simulated using the IDRE’s Hoffman cluster. In addition, being a part of the Early Career Research group, I had the opportunity to interact with other recipients of the award, and help begin to foster an environment where we can share our expertise. I would also like to mention that I will be joining as a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign starting Jan 2019.”

Nikhil Chandra Admal, Ph.D.

“The IDRE Postdoc fellowship was very helpful to fund my research to make good progress (on accelerating genomics applications), connect me with other peers in different disciplines, and identify collaborative research (e.g., I had some collaboration discussion with an EE professor through this program).”

Zhenman Fang, Ph.D.
