Access to the Sandbox is gained through a simple and relatively short process. First, project proposals should be made to IDRE faculty, advisors or OIT staff, depending on the nature of the endeavor. Proposals are reviewed by staff and faculty with an eye for projects that can benefit from the expertise and services provided by the sandbox and its related services. Once a project has been reviewed and accepted, students and researchers working on it can apply for accounts which will allow them to access the Sandbox and its workstations.
To apply go to: https://idre.ucla.edu/requesting-access-to-the-idre-sandbox
The application includes basic information only, such as the applicant’s name, phone number, e-mail address, department, access requirements and a brief description of the project they are working on. Once the online application is filled out, it will be processed and an account generated. An orientation to the lab and access will be scheduled shortly thereafter.
The Sandbox has provided for the digital needs of a wide variety of research projects including but not limited to GIS projects that include web components, architectural and historical modeling projects that include web and GIS components, modeling projects that include animation, and websites that include computer models, animation and GIS.
